Rubber Angles & L Shape Seals

Extruded rubber L-shapes are profiles with an L-shaped cross-section. The two legs of the profile meet at a right angle and can be manufactured to different lengths and wall thicknesses to fit the specific geometry of a mating surface, mounting channel, or corner edge.

L-shapes are used for edge sealing, corner protection, and panel gasketing in applications where a profile needs to seat against or wrap around a 90-degree edge. Depending on the industry, they are also referred to as angle extrusions, L-gaskets, or L-seals.

Vip Rubber and Plastic has manufactured extruded rubber profiles since 1961. We produce L-shapes in standard configurations and fully custom cross-sections, with in-house fabrication to deliver finished, ready-to-install parts.

A Reliable Source For

Extruded Rubber L Shape Seals

Vip Rubber & Plastic is a leading manufacturer of custom rubber L shape seals and other rubber extrusions for demanding applications. Founded in 1961, we are one of the largest manufacturers of custom rubber products in the United States of America. We invite you to learn more and to contact us for the L Shape that you need.

L-Shape Extrusion Capabilities

We manufacture extruded rubber L-shapes across a range of sizes and material formulations. Every profile can be produced to standard dimensions or custom cross-sections built to your drawing.

  • Dimensional Range: The key dimensions that define an L-shape profile are the length of each leg, the wall thickness, and the interior fillet radius where the two legs meet.
  • Durometer: We produce L-shapes across a durometer range of 20 to 90 Shore A, depending on the material and application requirements.
  • Tolerances: We produce L-shapes across a durometer range of 20 to 90 Shore A, depending on the material and application requirements.

Applications for Rubber Angle Extrusions

Extruded rubber L-shapes are used across a wide range of industries wherever a profile needs to seal, protect, or seat against a corner edge or 90-degree mating surface.

  • Agriculture: Door and access panel seals on tractors, combines, and outdoor equipment enclosures
  • Aerospace: Edge sealing on composite panels, access door gaskets, and environmental seals in aircraft compartments
  • Automotive: Door edge protection, trunk and hood seals, and panel gasketing on vehicle assemblies
  • Construction: Window and door frame sealing, curtain wall panel edges, and corner protection on architectural panels
  • Energy: Enclosure sealing on control panels, edge protection on solar modules, and weatherproofing on outdoor equipment
  • Mass Transit: Door and window seals on rail cars and buses, and panel edge protection in passenger compartments
  • Medical: Gaskets and edge seals on equipment enclosures and diagnostic device housings
  • Military and Defense: Environmental sealing on access panels, edge protection on ruggedized enclosures, and gaskets for field equipment

If your application is not listed above, that is not a disqualifier. Our team has been working with engineers and buyers across industries since 1961. If you can describe how the profile will be used and the environment it will operate in, we can recommend the right cross-section geometry and material to fit your requirements.

L Shape Materials

VIP Rubber & Plastic offers L-shaped rubber extrusions in the following materials:

  • Butyl
  • Ecoprene
  • EPDM
  • Fluorosilicone
  • FKM/Viton®
  • Natural Rubber
  • Neoprene
  • Nitrile
  • Polyisoprene
  • Silicone
  • SBR/Buna

If a standard elastomer does not meet your requirements, we can develop a custom compound formulated to your specific performance, regulatory, or aesthetic needs. This includes custom color matching for applications where color coding or brand consistency is a requirement.

We also produce materials to industry and government specifications, including AMS, ASTM, BMS, MIL-spec, and SAE standards. If your application requires a material certified to a specific specification, let us know, and we will work with you to find the right path forward.

How to Select the Right Rubber L-Shape for Your Application

The geometry of an L-shape is straightforward, but selecting the right compound and cross-section dimensions for your application requires working through several factors. Getting these right upfront prevents premature failure and avoids costly requalification later.

  • Industry specification: Some industries require materials that meet specific standards, such as FDA compliance for food contact, UL ratings for flame resistance, or MIL-spec requirements for military applications. If your application has a governing specification, that is the starting point for material selection.
  • Design requirements: The leg lengths, wall thickness, and fillet radius of the profile need to match the geometry of the surface it is sealing or protecting. A profile that does not fit the mating edge correctly will not compress or seat properly, regardless of how well-suited the material is.
  • Operating environment: Exposure to outdoor weathering, moisture, sunlight, or industrial conditions affects which elastomers are appropriate. A profile used indoors on a climate-controlled enclosure has very different requirements from one installed on outdoor agricultural or construction equipment.
  • Service temperatures: Every elastomer has a functional temperature range. Silicone performs well at temperature extremes, while EPDM and neoprene are better suited to moderate temperature applications. Knowing the minimum and maximum temperatures the profile will see is essential to material selection.
  • Chemical or UV resistance: If the profile will be exposed to oils, fuels, solvents, or cleaning agents, the compound must be formulated to resist those specific media. For outdoor applications, ozone and UV resistance are primary concerns. Not all elastomers handle both equally well.
  • Installation technique: How the profile is installed affects both the design and the material. A profile that is slid onto a panel edge has different leg length and durometer requirements than one that is compressed into a channel or bonded in place with a pressure-sensitive adhesive.

If you are unsure where to start, our team can work through these factors with you. Provide us with a description of your application and operating conditions, and we will recommend a profile design and compound that fit.
