Roll-in glazing beads are used for sealing doors and windows that have thick glass panes. Their applications aren’t limited based on glass thickness, but these products have a basic wedge-shaped roll that is recommended for thicker glass materials.
Commercial Glazing Seals for the Door and Window Market
Vip Rubber and Plastic of La Habra, California (USA) manufactures roll-in glazing beads but we do not keep these products in stock for small consumer orders. Minimum order quantities apply and lead times may vary. If you are a door or window manufacturer, contact us to discuss your application.
EPDM Glazing Beads vs. Santoprene Glazing Bead Seals
Most roll-in glazing beads for thick glass are made of 70-durometer EPDM or Santoprene, a high-performance thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) that can be processed and recycled like a thermoplastic.
- EPDM is weather-resistant, flexible, durable, cost-effective, and long-lasting.
- Santoprene is lighter than EPDM and offers superior flexibility, but generally costs more.
Durometer, a measure of hardness, is specified on the Shore A scale. Rubber that is 70-durometer is considered to be medium-hard. Lower durometer materials are softer but provide greater compressibility at the expense of impact resistance. Vip Rubber and Plastic can help you with material selection.
Vinyl Glazing Beads vs. Flex PVC Glazing Beads
Additional materials for roll-in glazing bead seals include vinyl, a low-cost and extremely versatile material. Vinyl, an abbreviated version of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), comes in flexible formulations that are also long lasting. Flex PVC, as this material is known, contains plasticizers and has rubber-like properties.
Roll-in Glazing Bead Specifications
Roll-in glazing beads are sometimes known as roll-in glazing gaskets. They are boxed in coils of standard lengths and carry dimensional properties such as overall width. These window seals are available in different styles and finishes, too. On the Vip website roll-in glazing beads are grouped with plastic extrusion profiles. You’ll also find other products there as well.
