Angled T Seal Materials: Santoprene vs. PVC
There are two main materials for angled T seals: Santoprene and PVC. Santoprene is more expensive, but it combines the performance properties of vulcanized rubber, such as low compression set and flexibility, with the processing ease of thermoplastics. Santoprene angled T seals also combine the environmental resistance of EPDM with the fluid resistance of polychloroprene.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a lower-cost material that is available in both rigid and flexible formulations. PVC angled T seals also provide excellent corrosion resistance and weather resistance. In addition, they have a high strength-to-weight ratio. With its combination of performance and aesthetic appeal, rigid PVC is often used for transparent angled T seals on framed shower doors.
Product Specifications for Angled T Seals
In addition to material of construction, angled extruded plastic T seals are specified by length, the width of the T, and the sweep length. For example, buyers can specify a clear translucent angled T drip sweep with a length of 84”, a T-width of 1/4” and a sweep length of 7/8”.
