Polypropylene
Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic “addition polymer” created from the various combination of propylene monomers. At Vip, we typically see PP pipes, tubing and cores used in the plumbing, HVAC, and fluid systems transferring both hot and cold liquids. This material can also be used as tubing in facilities (such as labs) where high purity is required, and manufacturing solid cores is extremely common.
This material was first polymerized back in 1951 by scientists Paul Hogan and Robert Banks, and later revised by scientists in Italy and Germany. PP quickly became a popular and and is still one of the most commonly used plastic materials today.
Characteristics of PP
- Good Chemical resistant
- Relatively tough material
- Semi-rigid
- Translucent, but can be produced in almost any color
- Good chemical resistance.
- Good resistance to fatigue
- Good heat resistance
- Cost-effective material, comparable in cost to PVC
- resistance to cracking, acids, and electrolytes
